Welcome to my Art Show

BIO
I was born Michigan, lived in Florida, and then I moved to Spearfish, South Dakota in 1999 and fell in love with the Black Hills. I attended Black Hills State University, graduating in 2006. I am a 5th grade Special Education teacher in Belle Fourche, SD. I have been creating art as long as I can remember.
I love nature, its sounds and colors, different woods, shapes, animals, creating and recreating, being inspired and inspiring others. I love the flora and fauna and how different everything is, and yet the same, alive, moving, growing, speaking, not just with words but straight to the heart and soul of those willing to listen.
I sometimes use wood in my art because it speaks to me of the past, the present and the future. I see it as a symbol of life and rebirth. I also insert mirrors to connect the viewer to the art and as a reminder to be reflective.
I love color and texture, and working with different fabrics to create my fabric collages. I am by no means a quilter (hats off to those that can), I really don't like to sew, but the rainbow of fabric that is offered sets my artistic heart thumping.
I love working with children, painting, found object art, writing stories and poetry. There is always potential. I also like creating with photography and looking at things just a little differently, a closer look sometimes.
Change your perspective, change your mind.
Even though we live in a throwaway society, I feel there is no garbage, it's all art parts (a sentiment held by an artist I admire, Louise Nevelson). I grew up liking so many different artist that have influenced my art journey in one way or another; Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Franz Marc, Cezanne, Duchamp, Caravaggio, Vermeer, Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Kandinsky, Van Gogh, Henri Matisse, Louise Nevelson (as mentioned above), Elliot Erwitt, Georgia O'Keefe, Alfred Stieglitz, Chuck Close, Robert Cottingham, Ansell Adams, Manet, Monet, Seurat, (better stop there), and many more. I am also inspired by local and regional artists.
I hope you enjoy my labor of love.
